Mobile Music Studio Brings Free Production Tools to Reunion Neighborhoods

Residents across Reunion will soon have free, direct access to professional music production tools, no travel required. Starting September 2, 2026, in Saint-Paul, a converted van called “Studio Si la Route” will carry recording equipment, instructors, and career guidance into the neighborhoods where people already live and gather, completing a fifteen-stop tour through November.

The initiative, run by the association En Studio, addresses a straightforward but persistent barrier: most music production resources are fixed in place, and reaching them demands time, transport, and often money. By bringing the studio to the community rather than the reverse, the project removes those obstacles entirely. Participation is free for all attendees.

What residents will find inside the van is a functioning creative workspace. Participants can work with computer-assisted music production software, record their own voices, and speak directly with sound professionals about career pathways in the industry. Each session is tailored to the host organization and its audience, so the experience shifts depending on who is in the room.

For many attendees, particularly those in neighborhoods without established cultural infrastructure, this will be a first direct encounter with professional music-making tools. That matters beyond the individual session. Exposure to sound engineering and production as viable careers can open doors that residents may not have known existed.

The schedule runs across three months and multiple communities. In September, MIO Ouest in Saint-Paul hosts six dates: September 2, 4, 9, 16, 18, and 23. October brings the van to Kaz Fami in La Possession on October 12, 13, and 22, with those sessions including creation, recording, and public presentation components. The CCAS in L’Etang-Sale follows with three consecutive days on October 19, 20, and 21. The Program for Educational Success (PRE), also in La Possession, carries the tour into November with dates on October 28, November 7, and November 14.

The Reunion Department is funding the project through its Citizen Initiative Budget program, contributing 15,000 euros to cover the vehicle’s equipment and modification costs. The van is currently completing its final setup before the September launch.

Meanwhile, the finer logistical details remain pending. Specific times, exact locations within each community, and press access arrangements will be confirmed once partner organizations finalize their plans. Any recordings made during sessions will require proper authorization from participants before they can be shared publicly.

The open question heading into September is how communities respond when the studio arrives at their door, and whether fifteen stops will be enough.
